Bump
- To raise.
Burn
Card - In card games, the card temporarily removed from
play. After a shuffle and cut, one card is placed on the
bottom of the deck or in the discard tray, which is called
"burning the card".
Bust
- In Blackjack, to go over twenty-one. If you bust, you
lose.
Buy
The 4 And 10 - Paying a five percent commission to the
casino so that the 4 and 10 pays off at 2-1 on place bets.
Call - In poker, when a player matches the current bet
on the table. In keno and bingo, to draw the numbers for
each game.
Card
Counting - Keeping track of all cards that have been
played since the shuffle.
Card
Shark - A person who is an expert at cards.
Cashier
- The place in a casino where players may redeem their casino
chips for cash.
Casino
Advantage - The edge that the house has over the players.
Change
Color - Changing casino chips into smaller or larger
denominations.
Chips
- Round tokens that are used on casino gaming tables in
lieu of cash.
C-Note
- A $100 bill.
Cold
- A player on a losing streak, or a slot machine that isn't
paying out.
Come
Bet - A wager placed after the come-out roll that the
dice will pass in Craps.
Come-out
Roll - The roll which establishes the point for the
Pass and Don't Pass Line bettors.
Comps
- Complimentary gifts used by casinos to reward players
for Gambling.
Crap
Out - Rolling a 2, 3 or 12 on the come-out roll.
Dealer - A casino employee who deals the cards.
Dean
(The) - A smart gambler who can calculate odds and percentages
(also called The Professor).
Dice
- The cubes, which are marked from 1 to 6, whose combinations
when thrown determine the wins and losses at a Craps table.
Dime
Bet - $1,000 wager.
Don't
Come Bet - A wager against the dice placed after the
come-out rol in Crapsl.

Money - (1) A bet or proposition giving each player
an equal chance to win. (2) A bet at correct odds. (3) A

Face Cards - A King, Queen or Jack in a deck of cards.

Bet - A one-roll wager that the next number thrown will
be a 2, 3, 4, 9, 10, 11 or 12 in Craps.
Free-Odds-Bet
- A bet made in addition to the Pass Line, Don't Pass Line,
come and Don't Come wagers which is paid at true odds in
Craps.
Front-Line
- A casino term for Pass Line in Craps.
Four-of-a-Kind
- A hand containing four cards of the same rank.
Full
House - A hand consisting of 3-of-a-Kind and a (different)
pair.
G-Note - $1,000 bill.
Hardway
Bet - To bet the number 4, 6, 8 or 10 will be made with
two duplicate numbers. 2-2,3-3 etc. in Craps.
Holding
Your Own - Breaking about even.
Hot
- Said of dice that are passing or a player on an extended
winning streak.
Jacks or Better - Draw poker in which a pair of Jacks
is the minimum hand permitted to start the action.
Joker
- A 53rd card in the deck, distinct from the others, used
as a wild card or as a BUG.
Kicker - In hands containing pairs and trips, the highest
card not matched.
Kicker
Trouble - Not having as high a kicker as an opponent.
Lady - A Queen.
Lay
The Odds - Odds bet against the number that pays off
at less than even money.
Lay
Wager - Betting against a point number that has been
thrown by paying a 5 percent commission.
Limit
- (1) Maximum amount a player may wager on a specific bet
or event. (2) Maximum amount a player may increase a previous
bet (at poker,etc). (3) Maximum amount bet before the casino/bookie
changes odds and/or the points. Also known as the "cap".

- (1) Blackjack - Ace and 10 count card. (2) Craps - 7 or
11 on the first roll.
Nickel
- A $500 wager.
Nut
- A gambler's overhead expenses.
Odds - Correct odds are the ratio of favorable vs. unfavorable
possibilities.

Dollar - $100 wager.

Eyed - The Jack of hearts, Jack of spades or King of
diamonds. So named because the characters are drawn in profile,
thus showing only one eye.
Pair - Two cards of the same rank.
Pass
- A winning situation for the right bettors in Craps.
Pay
Off - Calling a bet with little expectation of winning,
unless the opponent is bluffing.
Pit
Boss - A casino employee who is in charge of all the
tables in a particular area.
Place
Bet - The place numbers are 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10. The
place bet is a wager that either one or more of the place
numbers will come up before a seven in Craps.
Point
Numbers - The numbers 4, 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 established
on the come-out roll in Craps.
Push
- A tie. Neither side wins or loses.
Quads - Four-of-a-Kind.
Qualifier
- A minimum standard that a hand must meet in order to win.
Usually applied to the lowball side of a high-low split
pot.
Quarters
- A term used by experienced players meaning chips with
a twenty-five dollar denomination.
Rack - A box to hold chips or checks.
Rake
- Money taken from each pot and given to the house in return
for hosting the game. Usually a percentage of the pot (5%-10%)
up to some maximum amount.
Reel
- The spinning area on the slot machines displaying the
various symbols.
RNG
- Random Number Generator, used in slot machines to generate
the various reel combinations.
Royal
Flush - An Ace-high Straight Flush, the best possible
hand in regular poker.
Rush
A streak of winning many consecutive hands in Poker.
Score - A substantial win.
Seven-Out
- The rolling of a seven after the point has been established.
Snapper
- Ace/10 - see natural.
Spit
- A very small amount of money.
Stack
- The amount of money (the stack of chips) a player has
on the table.
Stake
- The amount of a player's buy-in, or the amount of money
they are willing to play with in a given session.
Straight
- A hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence but not of the
same suit.
Straight
Flush - A hand consisting of 5 cards in sequence and
of the same suit.
Tap Out - To bet and lose one's last dollar.

- Three cards of the same rank.
Toke
- A gratuity given to a dealer by a player.
Trey
- A Three.
Trips
- Three-of-a-Kind. In Hold'em, the term SET is used when
two of the three cards are hole cards.
Wild Card - A joker or standard card that, by player
agreement and/or dealer's choice, can be used to represent
any card desired.
Wise
Guy - An educated professional gambler with an extensive
track record of being a winning player.
Zombie - A gambler who never shows emotion regardless
of the outcome.
